A presentation by historian Hampton Sides at Caltech's Baxter Hall
HAMPTON SIDES, award-winning editor of Outside Magazine and a bestselling historian, isknown for his gripping adventure stories, often set in war-time or depicting epic expeditions of discovery. The author has written about polar exploration, World War II, Kit Carson, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the American Frontier. His lectures captivate audiences and bring his sweeping tales to life. He has also written for such periodicals as National Geographic, The New Yorker, and Esquire. His work has been twice nominated for National Magazine Awards. A native of Memphis and a Yale graduate, Hampton is on the advisory board of the Author’s Guild and is a 2015 Miller Distinguished Scholar at the Santa Fe Institute. He divides his time between Santa Fe and Colorado College, where he teaches narrative non-fiction and serves as Journalist-in-Residence.
