Emily Sernaker, Stephen Taylor & Alexandra Umlas
Every second Sunday Rattle presents a reading featuring poets from the current issue at the Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse. Admission is free. Scheduled poets are subject to change.
Emily Sernaker is a writer and human rights professional living in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has appeared in many publications, including Ms. Magazine Online, The Los Angeles Times, McSweeney’s, The Sun, and The Rumpus. She is a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar and a Pushcart Prize nominee. Her poem “ I Have Confidence” appeared in Rattle #55, and two poems have appeared in Rattle’s Poets Respond series.
Stephen Taylor teaches writing and mythology at Glendale College. He has won an L.A. Arts Council Literature Award and is a two-time finalist in The Katherine Anne Porter Prize for Fiction. His first story collection, Cut Men, was published by Main Street Rag Press in 2005, and a new collection will appear soon. His “Prenuptial Agreement” appears in Rattle #60.
Alexandra Umlas lives in Huntington Beach, California, with her husband and two daughters. She has an MA in Education and is currently an MFA student at California State University, Long Beach. Her poem "Touring the B-17 Bomber at the Palm Springs Air Museum“ appeared in Rattle’s Poets Respond series last fall.
