A STORY IS ONLY GREAT IF YOU KNOW HOW TO TELL IT! Does your storytelling sometimes feel stuck? Corey Rosen discusses his new book with director Jason Winer and shares how you, as a writer, can take advantage of the techniques of improvisation to find stories worth telling from your own life.

Corey Rosen is a regular host of The Moth Story Slam series in the Bay Area. His stories have been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and the Back Fence PDX: Mainstage. Corey began his career writing for Jim Henson Productions and Comedy Central in New York City. He is a main stage company player at BATS Improv, where he improvises feature length plays. His film credits (as a VFX Artist) include Iron Man, Grindhouse, Ted, and The Phantom Menace. He lives in San Francisco.

Jason Winer is a director, writer and producer of both television and film and is best known for directing the pilot episode of ABC’s Modern Family.

Winer received the DGA Award for “Outstanding Direction of a Comedy Series” for the pilot of ABC's comedy hit Modern Family. He served as the producing director of the show’s first season, for which he received Emmy, Peabody, PGA, and AFI Awards. He has now directed 19 episodes of the series and earned a second directing Emmy nomination for his episode, “Virgin Territory.”

Most recently, Winer directed the Fox hour-long pilot The Big Leap written by Liz Heldens of Friday Night Lights and executive produced by Winer, Heldens, and Sue Naegle.

The feature directorial debut for Winer came in 2011 with Arthur starring Russell Brand and Helen Mirren. His second feature film, Ode To Joy, starring Martin Freeman, Morena Baccarin, Jake Lacy and Melissa Rauch was released in summer 2019.

Winer’s other television credits include serving as the pilot director and executive producer of the critically acclaimed CBS series Life in Pieces, which just wrapped a successful four season run. As a pilot director, his credits also include Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, which ran for two seasons on ABC. In his capacity as a creator, Winer has written and directed highly regarded pilots for every major network, with titles including Giants of Radio and This Might Hurt. In series, he also created and executive produced 1600 Penn for NBC, as well as directing and executive producing The Crazy Ones for CBS. More recently, he directed the pilots and executive produced ABC’s Single Parents and NBC’s Perfect Harmony.

Winer’s production shingle, Small Dog Picture Company, is based at 20th Century Fox.

A graduate of Northwestern University, double majoring in Performance Studies and Photography, Winer honed his improv skills in the acclaimed comedy group, “The Mee-Ow Show”. He is also an alumnus of the Improv Olympic Theatre in Chicago. He began his career as an actor, improviser, and photographer before making the transition to directing.
