Two animals set the records straight…
This is a Seahorse: When a child writes a report about a seahorse, the creature himself has a few things to say about the animals he’s compared to. First of all, he is nothing like a land horse. His tail is much more useful than an opossum’s tail. And his snout fits his face perfectly—unlike an anteater’s snout. Delivering fascinating facts along the way, the seahorse sets the record straight about what makes his species so special.
This is a Sea Cow: When an imaginative second-grader writes a school report about sea cows, the subject is not happy with her portrayal. Sea Cow―or Manatee, as she prefers to be called―comes to life on the pages of the report and decides to defend herself against unflattering comparisons by providing intriguing facts about her species.
“The children, teachers, and parents were all engaged! You got their creative juices flowing!… Your books are exactly what we needed for our Writers Workshop unit! We hope to see you every year! Thank you again and again!" - 1st grade teacher (Pacific Palisades, CA)
Cassandra Federman was born and raised in Massachusetts, where she spent her childhood reading comic books, playing with action figures, drawing superheroes, and participating in all things nerdy (before that became cool). She graduated magna cum laude from Brandeis University and moved to Los Angeles, where she worked in film and television. She later became a hand model and even played Jessica Alba’s hands once--allegedly. She recently gave up pretending to be famous people’s hands to focus on creating art and literature for children.
