The La Cañada Flintridge One City, One Book committee announces its 2021 selection “142 Ostriches” by April Davila. Davila’s debut novel is the 15th featured One City, One Book La Cañada Flintridge selection.
Come hear the author discuss her novel, which follows 22-year-old Tallulah Jones, who wants nothing more than to escape her life working on the family’s ostrich ranch in the Mohave Desert.
“Set against the desolate beauty of the Mojave Desert, Davila’s absorbing story centers on a free-spirited young woman who inherits her grandmother’s ostrich ranch and redefines herself as she readies the ranch for sale, copes with her complicated extended family, and struggles with the responsibility of caring for the 142 huge, graceful birds who depend on her.”
A fourth-generation California, Davila lives in La Cañada Flintridge with her husband and two children. She has an M.A. in writing from USC.
